Tim Benjamin – BA LLB

Principal

Benjamin Lawyer’s principal, Tim Benjamin, was admitted to practice in NSW in July 1981 after graduating from Sydney University with degrees in Arts and Law. After managing a broad range of litigation and commercial practice areas in private practice and handling a high volume of litigated claims in a large insurance company, in 1987 he commenced a boutique commercial practice in the Sydney CBD with a partner, where he was responsible for most litigation and commercial matters.

Between 1996 and 2006, Tim acted as an in-house lawyer and manager of a film financing business that executive-produced and financed a wide range of screened entertainment, including feature films, documentaries, TV series and children’s animation before opening his own firm in 2006.

Tim has over three decades of experience in a range of commercial legal matters. His wealth of knowledge combined with an unwavering dedication to providing exceptional legal services has not only resulted in outstanding outcomes for his clients but lasting business relationships.

Chris Khalil – B Comms LLB (Hons)

Solicitor

After completing a degree in communications, Chris spent several years working in the not-for-profit sector in marketing, digital media and technology before deciding to study law at the University of Notre Dame Australia. During his legal studies, Chris was involved in the university’s law committee, serving as the IT Director and was a team member in the Sydney campus’ first Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot team in 2016. Chris graduated from his law degree with honours.

Chris was first employed as a law clerk at Benjamin Lawyers in August 2016. He was admitted to practice in December 2017 and is now employed as a solicitor under the supervision of Tim Benjamin and Anna Cox. Chris is also an Adjunct Research Associate at the University of Notre Dame Australia. Chris is also a member of the NSW Young Lawyers Communication, Entertainment & Technology Law Committee.

Chris’ background in marketing, digital media and technology provides him with an exceptional understanding of the intersection between these fields and the law.

Anna Cox – MBL (Syd)

Senior Lawyer & Costs Consultant

After completing 5 years as a law clerk Anna Cox was first admitted to practice in 1987 and holds a Masters of Business Law from the University of Sydney. She is also a trained Mediator.

Anna has worked for a number of small and medium sized law firms in Sydney and regional centres and has extensive experience in commercial, estate and general litigation in all NSW courts and tribunals as well as in the federal courts. Her focus is on assisting clients to achieve the best practical outcome at the best price, avoiding litigation in favour of a negotiated settlement where possible and working diligently to prepare a dispute for a court hearing where necessary.

Anna has also worked as a costs consultant and brings to all disputes her expertise in considering the costs implications of all aspects of a dispute.

Her litigation experience has given Anna a strong awareness of the need for clients to undertake proper estate and business succession planning via a will and other documents. She believes in working collaboratively with clients and their other advisors to help make the right estate and succession plan for them.

Sonal Moore – BA LLB (Hons) (Syd)

Consultant Senior Lawyer

Sonal was admitted in 1984 and specialises in intellectual property law including both commercial and enforcement work.

Her passion is to provide high quality legal advice to assist businesses, whatever their size, to grow and compete in their chosen market. Sonal’s expertise includes drafting a wide range of IP related commercial documents, trade mark registration work, IP audits, assisting start-ups and the enforcement of IP rights. Sonal has worked for a range of law firms including a number of top and mid-tier firms in Sydney.

Sonal also publishes a weekly IP focused newsletter and writes short plays.
